Robert William Raker, son of Gottlieb and Marguerite (Poppe) Raker, was born May 11, 1921 in Pluma, South Dakota. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942 and was inducted into the Army September 23, 1942. He served in Battery C, 127th Field Artillery Battalion and landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy France on July 7, 1944. Pfc Robert W Raker was killed in action by artillery shell fragments on July 10, 1944 during the battle for St Lo, France. He is buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Scotland, South Dakota.
