He was an Automatic Rifleman in the 2nd Platoon, Company L and landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy on July 6, 1944. Pfc Richard E Campbell was Killed in Action during the battle for St Lo, France on July 17, 1944. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, France
