David William Davis, son of Frank and Besse (Collins) Davis, was born July 7, 1923 in New Straitsville, Ohio. He registered for the draft June 27, 1942 and enlisted in the Army January 9, 1943 at Columbus, Ohio. He served in Headquarters, Company M, 134th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 6, 1944. He was assigned to special duty with the supply section of Service Company when he and three other soldiers were salvaging equipment in the vicinity of Bellange, France on November 16, 1944. While attempting to retrieve this equipment, one of them set off a German landmine, killing Pvt Davis and 2 other soldiers and wounding another. Pvt David W Davis is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint Avold, France
