134th Infantry Regiment - Company E

James William Hancock, son of Orpha (Moore) and Charles Corbett Hancock and the husband of Patricia Hancock, was born April 17, 1923 in Cabell county, West Virginia. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942 and enlisted in the Army August 13, 1943 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He joined Company E, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 20, 1944. Pvt James W Hancock was seriously wounded in action by a shell blast July 26, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France and died of his wounds the same day. He is buried at Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, West Virginia.
