James Paul Haynes, son of David Lawrence and Mary Jane (McGuire) Haynes, was born July 10, 1921 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942 while living in Cricket, North Carolina and was inducted into the Army August 31, 1942 at Camp Croft, South Carolina. He was a Rifleman, Second Platoon, Company F, 134th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 5, 1944. He was promoted to Private First Class July 27, 1944. Pfc James P Haynes was killed in action July 28, 1944 south of St Lo, France. He is buried at Lewis Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, Purlear, North Carolina.
