Henry Gustive Herold, son of Fred Charles and Anna Augusta (Koentizer) Herold, was born December 28, 1912 in James, South Dakota. He married Lillian Irene Krueger June 21, 1937. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At that time he was living in Aberdeen, South Dakota and working as an automotive salesman. He joined Company K, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 21, 1944. Pvt Henry G Herold was killed in action July 26, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
