134th Infantry Regiment - Company F

Verle Page Holcomb, son of Daniel and Imogene (Page) Holcomb, was born October 16, 1921 in Iowa City, Iowa. He married Montee Aldridge September 14, 1941 and registered for the draft February 1, 1942 when he was a 20 year old student at Southern Illinois University. He was inducted into the Army September 2, 1942 and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant March 8, 1943 at Fort Benning, Georgia. He served in the 71st Infantry Division until departing for the ETO in June 1944. He joined Company F, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Platoon Leader from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 22, 1944 when the unit was at St Lo, France. 2nd Lt Verle P Holcomb was wounded in action July 28, 1944 in the vicinity of Sainte-Suzanne-sur-Vire, south of St Lo. He died of his wounds that same day. He is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
