William John Horner was born April 29, 1921 in Monterey, California. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942 when he was 20 years old, living in San Francisco and working at Union Oil Company. He enlisted in the Army November 11, 1942 at San Francisco and served as a Rifleman in Company I, 134th Infantry Regiment. Sgt William J Horner suffered multiple artillery shell fragment wounds on November 11, 1944 in the vicinity of Gerbecourt, France. He died of gangrene November 16, 1944. He is buried at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, California.
