134th Infantry Regiment - Company I

Robert Franklin Jacoby, son of Edward Frederick and Iva May (Mann) Jacoby, was born June 3, 1916 in Chesterfield, Illinois. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was living in Hartford, Illinois and working at the International Shoe Company there. He entered service June 8, 1941, served as an Automatic Rifleman (BAR man) in the Second Platoon, Company I, 134th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 6, 1944. Pfc Robert F Jacoby was initially reported missing and later confirmed killed by small arms fire on July 31, 1944 while attacking the high ground near Conde sur Vire, south of St Lo, France. According to his Killed in Action Report, he was considered a conscientious soldier and good man by his Company. He is buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois.
