Robert Rudolph Jovanov, son of Peter and Clara Jovanov, was born June 17, 1917 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He married Doris Dallas August 2, 1940 in Winchester, Virginia and the couple had a son Robert Hugh Jovanov born December 23, 1944. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was living in Philadelphia. He was inducted into the Army June 25, 1943 and was a Rifleman in Company E, 134th Infantry Regiment. He landed at Omaha Beach July 5, 1944. He was wounded in action by shell fragments July 30 south of St Lo, France and returned to duty December 12, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Bliesbruck, France. Pvt Robert R Jovanov was initially reported missing December 31, 1944 east of Sainlez, Belgium. He was later confirmed killed in action by mortar fire on that date. He is buried at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania.
