Howard Francis Jurden Jr, son of Howard and Ellen Margaret (Schwendeman) Jurden, was born December 24, 1925 in Marietta, Ohio. He registered for the draft December 24, 1943 when he was an 18 year old student and enlisted in the Army June 26, 1944 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He joined Company F, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 82nd Replacement Battalion December 21, 1944 when the unit was at Guebenhouse, France. Pvt Howard F Jurden, Jr was initially reported missing and later confirmed killed in action January 1, 1945 when he was struck and killed by artillery fire while Company F was clearing a wooded area in the vicinity of Lutrebois, Belgium. He is buried at Saint John the Baptist Cemetery, Churchtown, Ohio.
