134th Infantry Regiment - Company A

James Richard King, son of Logan and Pearl (Minton) King, was born April 4, 1921 in Vernon, Texas. He registered for the draft July 3, 1942 and was inducted into the Army August 27, 1942 at Tyler, Texas. He served as an Automatic Rifleman in the First Platoon, Company A, 134th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 5, 1944. Pfc James R King was killed in action by shell fragments in the vicinity of St Lo, France. There is conflicting information regarding his date of death. A Company Morning Report lists July 19, 1944 while a Regimental Battle Casualty Report lists his status as missing to killed in action July 17, 1944. He is buried at Frankston City Cemetery, Frankston, Texas. His headstone incorrectly shows his unit as the 139th Infantry Regiment.
