Emory Kiser, son of Issac Robert and Dora Bell (Grizzle) Kiser, was born December 26, 1916 in Russell County, Virginia. He married Golda Ruby Sliger April 21, 1944. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 and was inducted into the Army May 8, 1941 at Roanoke, Virginia. He trained at Camp Lee, Virginia, Fort George Meade, Maryland, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Fort Benning, Georgia. He joined Company G, 134th Infantry Regiment from the 48th Replacement Battalion August 19, 1944 when the unit was north of Orleans, France. T/4 Emory Kiser, an assistant Squad Leader, was initially reported missing on September 11 when his company attempted to cross the Moselle River near Nancy, France. Enemy opposition was unexpectedly severe, and the company was forced to withdraw. He was reported missing after the withdrawal and was later confirmed to have been killed by shell blast fragments on September 14, 1944. He is buried at Henry Mayfield Kiser Cemetery, Russell County, Virginia.
