Edward Henry Lechner, son of Theodore and Agnes (Kuhlman) Lechner, was born July 29, 1918 in Paul, Nebraska. He was a member of the Nebraska National Guard, registered for the draft October 16, 1940, and was mobilized to Federal Service December 23, 1940 at Nebraska City, Nebraska. He served in Company A, 134th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 5, 1944. He was wounded by shell fragments during the battle for St Lo, France July 15, 1944. After recuperating from his wounds, he returned to duty October 3, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Aboncourt, France. He was promoted to Technical Sergeant November 30, 1944 and to 2nd Lieutenant, Platoon Leader, December 12, 1944. 2nd Lt Edward H Lechner was initially reported missing in the vicinity of Habkirchen, Germany and was later confirmed killed in action December 19, 1944. He is buried at Ardennes American Cemetery, Neuville-en-Condroz, Belgium.
