Joseph Maurice Livio, son of Tito "Charles" and Rose
(Fera) Livio, was born April 5, 1919 in Buffalo, New York. He enlisted in the
New York National Guard, Battery B, 209th Coast Guard Artillery September 30,
1940 and was inducted into the Army February 10, 1941 at Buffalo, New York. He
joined Company E, 134th Infantry Regiment from the 14th Replacement Depot on
December 24, 1944 when the unit was in Metz, France and served as a machine
gunner. Pvt Joseph M Livio was initially reported missing January 6, 1945 while
protecting the high ground East of Sainlez, Belgium when the unit was forced to
withdraw. He was later confirmed killed in action by small arms fire January 13,
1945 while attempting to take high ground in the vicinity of Lutrebois, Belgium.
He is buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheektowaga, New York.
