134th Infantry Regiment - Company L

Dean Edwin Long, son of Adam Henry and Florence Luella (Bartholomew) Long, was born April 3, 1925 in Canton, Ohio. He registered for the draft April 3, 1943 and was inducted into the Army July 14, 1943 at Akron, Ohio. He was a member of the Third Platoon, Company L, 134th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 6, 1944. He was promoted to Sergeant, Squad Leader, July 20, 1944 and to Staff Sergeant August 19, 1944. S/Sgt Dean E Long was initially reported missing September 30, 1944 in the vicinity of Chambrey, France and was later confirmed killed in action on that date. He is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton, Ohio.
