Robert Russell Mach, son of Joseph and Alma Morine (Sedlacek) Mach, was born March 13, 1925 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He registered for the draft March 13, 1943. At the time he was attending Iowa University. He was inducted into the Army August 17, 1943 at Camp Dodge Herrold, Iowa and joined Company A, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 20, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Villiers, France. Pvt Robert R Mach was killed in action September 21, 1944 northeast of Nancy, France. He is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint Avold, France.
