Donald Julius Maples, son of Charley Campbell and Juritta Isabel (Welch) Maples, was born November 11, 1919 in Clever, Missouri. He registered for the draft July 1, 1941 and was inducted into the Army February 15, 1942. He was a Squad Leader in the Weapons Platoon, Company L, 134th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France on July 6, 1944. Pfc Donald J Maples was killed in action July 30, 1944 in the vicinity of Torigini Sur Vire, southeast of St Lo, France. He is buried at Frazier Cemetery, Boaz, Missouri.
