Harold Eugene Martin, son of Robert Henry and Elizabeth Catharine (Graham) Martin, was born September 3, 1917 in Tipton, Indiana. He and his wife Katherine Dodds (Michael) Martin had a son, James. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was working at Oakes Manufacturing Company in Tipton. He was inducted into the Army August 18, 1943 at Indianapolis, Indiana, served as a Messenger in Headquarters Platoon, Company L, 134th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France July 6, 1944. Pvt Harold E Martin was killed in action July 30, 1944 by an artillery blast in the vicinity of Torigini-sur-Vire, France. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France and memorialized at Fairview Cemetery, Tipton, Indiana.
