Burl McBeth, Jr, son of Burl and Frances Mildred (Stauffer) McBeth, was born January 27, 1922 in Mt Pleasant, Pennsylvania. He married Virginia Fern Derryberry August 2, 1943 and the couple had a son, Gary Burl. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942. At the time he was living in Scottsdale, Pennsylvania and working at the National Tube Company. He was inducted into the Army February 22, 1943 at Greensburg, Pennsylvania and joined Company H, 134th Infantry Regiment from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 31, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Conde-sur -Vire, France. Pfc Burl McBeth, Jr was killed in action February 26, 1945 when he was struck and killed by fragments from mortar fire while operating a field radio in an observation post while directing fire upon enemy positions in the vicinity of Hilfarth, Germany. According to a notation in his killed in action report, his Captain said "All the men will miss him. He was a wholesome boy - liked by all for his charitable attitude". He is buried at Dickerson Run Union Cemetery, Dickerson Run, Pennsylvania.
