Aubra Nelson McCrady, son of John Bernard and Ethel May (Shrigley) McCrady, was born November 19, 1912 in Croydon, Indiana. He and his wife Beulah had a son, Roger Duanne, who died in infancy, and a daughter Jeanette. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 and was inducted into the Army October 12, 1943 at Louisville, Kentucky. He joined Third Platoon, Company G, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 21, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of St Lo, France. He was wounded by shell fragments July 27 but remained on duty. He was awarded a Purple Heart Medal August 5, 1944 and was promoted to Private First Class March 15, 1945. Pfc Aubra N McCrady was killed in action March 26, 1945 by mortar fire in the vicinity of Gladbeck, Germany. He is buried at Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.
