George Perry McDermott, son of Thomas Joseph and Lulu Edna (Hazen) McDermott, was born January 4, 1917 in Smethport, Pennsylvania. He married Tennice Ruth Walker August 14, 1937. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was working at South Penn Oil Company. He was inducted into the Army July 19, 1943 in Erie, Pennsylvania, served as a Rifleman in the Second Platoon, Company A, 134th Infantry Regiment, and landed at Omaha Beach July 5, 1944. Pfc George P McDermott was wounded by a gunshot to the chest July 28, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France and died of his wounds that same day. He is buried at Saint Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport, Pennsylvania.
