Samuel Luther Mensch, son of Alvin Franklin and Bella Mae (Weimer) Mensch, was born June 17, 1918 in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 and was inducted into the Army February 19, 1943 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He joined Company C, 134th Infantry Regiment as an Ammunition Handler from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 17, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of St Lo, France. Pfc Samuel L Mensch was killed in action August 10, 1944 in the vicinity of Mortain, France. He is buried at Brittany American Cemetery, Saint James, France.
