Rufus Calvert Myers was the seventh of eight children born to John Asher and Virginia Ann Smith Myers on May 24, 1897 in Gatesville, Texas. He married Annie Baker in Tennyson, Texas on December 24, 1917. They were expecting their first child in December, 1918. Rufus completed his WWI Draft Registration June 5, 1918, and he was sent to Boot Camp during the Summer of 1918. In the Fall, he transferred to Camp Dix and was preparing to head overseas when he succumbed to The Spanish Flu, also known as the 1918 Influenza, on September 22, 1918 less than two months before the end of WWI and ten weeks before his daughter Anna Bernice Calvert Myers was born.
