Joe Notzon, son of Longin and Mary (Wiatrek) Notzon, was born in Wilson County, Texas on March 13, 1917. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. His draft record lists him as 5' 7" tall, weighing 129 pounds, with grey eyes, brown hair, and a light complexion. He was inducted into the Army January 6, 1942 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Pvt Joe Notzon was a Rifleman in Weapons Platoon, Company A, 134th Infantry Regiment. He was seriously wounded in action by shrapnel during the battle for St. Lo, France on July 15 and died of his wounds 3 days later on July 18, 1944. He is buried at Ann's Catholic Cemetery Kosciusko, Texas.
