134th Infantry Regiment - Company C

Herbert Elwood Pertain, son of George Herbert and Irene (Curley) Pertain, was born November 13, 1915 in Brooklyn, New York. He married Jane Adams April 24, 1943 and the couple had a daughter, Linda Frances Pertain, born just before her father left for the ETO. He joined Company C, 134th Infantry Regiment August 10, 1944 from the 48th Replacement Battalion and served as a Platoon Leader. He was seriously wounded in action by shell fragments on September 18, 1944, north of Nancy, France. 1st Lt Herbert E Pertain died of his wounds September 21, 1944. He is buried at Saint John Cemetery, Middle Village, New York.
