Raymond Hans Petersen, son of Lawrence and Lena Martine (Jensen) Petersen, was born April 22, 1919 in Day county South Dakota. He married Irene Ruth Loterbauer December 20, 1941. The couple had a daughter, Virginia. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 and served as a Rifleman in the Second Platoon, Company A, 134th Infantry Regiment. He landed at Omaha Beach , Normandy France July 5, 1944. Pfc Raymond H Petersen was wounded in action by artillery shell fragments July 15, 1944 during the battle for Hill 122 in the vicinity of St Lo, France and died of his wounds July 17, 1944. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
