Wilbur Allen Phillips, son of Russell Merle and Alice (Lavarack) Phillips, was born June 7, 1921 in Monongahela, Pennsylvania. He was married to Mary Jean Sesko. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942. At the time he was living in New Castle, Pennsylvania and working at the Carnegie Illinois Steel Corporation. He was inducted into the Army July 31, 1943 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and joined Company L, 134th Infantry Regiment from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 17, 1944 serving as a Rifleman. He was wounded by shrapnel July 31, 1944 in the vicinity of Torigini Sur Vire, France but remained on duty. Pfc Wilbur A Phillips was killed in action August 3, 1944 in the vicinity of Vire, France. He is buried at Graceland Cemetery, New Castle, Pennsylvania.
