Dominic Picco, son of James and Terena (Dinelli) Picco, was born August 14, 1921 in Wilsonville, Illinois. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942. At the time he was living in Chicago, Illinois. He was inducted into the Army December 9, 1943 and joined Company I, 134th Infantry Regiment from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 21, 1944. He suffered bullet wounds to his right hand November 11, 1944 in the vicinity of Foret De Chateau Salins, France and returned to duty December 5, 1944. Pfc Dominic Picco was reported missing in action December 17, 1944 when Company I came under a heavy artillery barrage while attempting to clear the Bannholz Woods near Habkirchen, Germany. It was later confirmed that he had been killed in action on that date. He is buried at Benld Cemetery, Benld, Illinois.
