Robert Samuel Purvis, son of Floyd Walker and May Violet (Amble) Purvis, was born April 5, 1919 in Fargo, North Dakota. He married Cleo Marie Cannon and the couple had one child, a daughter. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 while living in Grand Forks, North Dakota and was inducted into the Army November 27, 1940. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant October 13, 1942 at Fort Benning, Georgia, arrived in the ETO in June 1944 and joined the 134th Infantry Regiment from the 92nd Replacement Battalion on July 24, 1944. 2nd Lt Robert S Purvis was killed in action September 20, 1944 in the vicinity of Nancy, France. He is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
