134th Infantry Regiment - HQ Company 2nd Battalion

Robert Hugh Putman, son of Dr Lynn and Grace Belle (Sweney) Putman, was born May 19, 1917 in Omaha, Nebraska. He married Virginia Caroline Stageman on February 8, 1941. The couple had a daughter, Roberta Lee, born the month after her father's death. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was employed by the Nebraska Clothing Company in Omaha. He was a member of the Nebraska National Guard and mobilized for Federal Service at Omaha on December 23, 1940, serving as a 1st Sergeant in Headquarters Platoon, Headquarters Company 2nd Battalion, 134th Infantry Regiment. He landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy France on July 6, 1944. 1st Sergeant Robert H Putman was wounded by artillery shrapnel July 17, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France and died of his wounds August 9, 1944. He is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Omaha, Nebraska.
