Marcellus Anthony Reidford, son of George Felix and Mary Thusia (Niemeier) Reidford, was born July 28, 1922 at St Joseph, Indiana. The Army lists his surname as "Reidford" however his headstone shows the spelling as "Riedford". He registered for the draft June 30, 1942 and was inducted into the Army October 21, 1942 at Evansville, Indiana. He joined Company L, 134th Infantry Regiment as an Automatic Rifleman on July 20, 1944 from the 86th Replacement Battalion. He was killed in action 10 days later July 30, 1944. According to a condolence letter sent to his mother, on that day he was assisting his company as they were participating in the exploitation of the break-through from St Lo, France. As Company L was attacking a German strong point, he was struck and killed by small arms fire. Pfc Marcellus A Reidford was originally buried at the temporary American Military Cemetery at Saint Laurent-sur-Mer, France. He was laid to final rest February 9, 1948 at Saint Wendel Church Cemetery, Saint Wendel, Indiana.
