Donald Blaine Rice, son of Jesse Blaine and Clarissa Caroline (Smith) Rice, was born April 27, 1945 in Oakley, Idaho. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was living in Burley, Idaho and working at Amalgamated Sugar Factory in Burley. He was inducted into the Army July 19, 1944 in Butte, Montana and joined Company K, 134th Infantry Regiment January 18, 1945 from the 48th Replacement Battalion. He was wounded in action by shell fragments in the vicinity of Basbellain, Luxembourg on January 23 and returned to duty February 23, 1945. He was promoted to Private First Class March 4, 1945. Pfc Donald B Rice was killed in action April 23, 1945 by small arms fire at Kehnert, Germany northeast of Magdeburg along the Elbe River during a German counter-attack on the town. He is buried at Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.
