Joseph John Roche, son of John and Loretta (Sammon) Roche, was born September 4, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio. He registered for the draft on December 23, 1942. He was 18 years old at the time and a student at Collinwood High School in Cleveland. He was inducted into the Army June 16, 1943 and joined Company I, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman on September 24, 1944 from the 38th Replacement Battalion. He was killed in action September 30, 1944 by artillery shell fragments during an enemy counterattack northeast of Nancy, France. Pvt Joseph J Roche is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint-Avold, Lorraine, France.
