Clifford Farris Rucker, son of William Clayton and Sally Mae (Robinson) Rucker, was born September 30, 1924 in Hart County, Georgia. He registered for the draft December 18, 1942. At the time he was 18 years old, unemployed, and living in Bowman, Georgia. He was inducted into the Army January 7, 1943 at Fort McPherson, Georgia and served as a Light Mortar Crewman in the Mortar Platoon, Company M, 134th Infantry Regiment. He landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 6, 1944 and participated in the battle for St Lo. Pfc Clifford F Rucker was wounded by enemy artillery shell fragments south of St Lo in the vicinity of Torigni-sur-Vire, France and died of his wounds that same day, July 30, 1944. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France and memorialized at Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston, Georgia.
