134th Infantry Regiment - Companies C and M

Joseph George Rudegeair, son of Raymond Nicholas and Anna Mabel (Redinger) Rudegeair, was born March 25, 1913 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. He married Rose A. Miller February 14, 1942. He was inducted into the Army in April 1942, graduated from Officer's Candidate School January 1, 1943 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. He trained at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Camp Wheeler and Fort Benning, Georgia and was commission 1st Lieutenant July 22, 1943. He departed for the ETO in May 1944 and joined Company C, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Platoon Leader from the 48th Replacement Battalion August 10, 1944. He was wounded in action by artillery shell fragments 2 days later August 12, 1944 in the vicinity of Mortain, France. He returned to duty September 2 and transferred to Company M September 3, 1944. 1st Lt Joseph G Rudegeair was killed in action November 17, 1944 in the vicinity of Morhange, France. He is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint-Avold, France.
