Doyle Lenton Rutledge, son of Ezra Winfield and Mertie Leo (Corley) Rutledge, was born April 27, 1922 in Yell County, Arkansas. He married Mildie Marie Griffith July 6, 1941 and the couple had 2 daughters, Mary Alice born in 1942 who died in infancy and Marie. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942 and was inducted into the Army May 22, 1944 at Camp Joseph T Robinson in Arkansas. He joined Company E, 134th Infantry Regiment on January 8, 1945 when the Company was in the vicinity of Sainlez, Belgium, serving as a Rifleman, and was promoted to Private First Class February 8, 1945. Pfc Doyle L Rutledge was killed in action by mortar fire while holding a defensive position in a woods about 2 miles west of Gladbeck, Germany. He was originally buried at Netherlands American Military Cemetery in Margraten, Holland and was laid to final rest at Russell Cemetery, Belleville, Arkansas.
