Gerald Calvin Saunders, son of Calvin Elisha and Blanche (Seekings) Saunders was born October 5, 1920 in Bemus Point, New York. He married Julia Hattibelle Abers on September 15, 1940 and the couple had 3 daughters, Dorla, Geraldine, and Beverly. He registered for the draft February 14, 1942. At the time he was living in Fredonia and working at National Worsted Mills in Falconer, New York. He was inducted into the Army May 5, 1944 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He joined Company B, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 48th Replacement Battalion on January 8 and was promoted to Private First Class January 20, 1945. Pfc Gerald C Saunders was killed by artillery shrapnel while helping to clear snipers from the recently liberated town of Troisviergesn, Luxembourg. He is buried at Willowbrook Park Cemetery, Dunkirk, New York.
