John Jacob Schmidt, son of George and Grace May (Kains) Schmidt, was born December 1, 1915 in Judsonia, Arkansas. He married Delpha Marie Jeffords September 3, 1934. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was living in Floral, Arkansas. He was inducted into the Army June 21, 1944 at Camp Joseph T Robinson, Little Rock Arkansas and joined Company H, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Heavy Machine Gunner from the 14th Replacement Battalion on December 21, 1944. Pvt John J Schmidt was killed in action by artillery shrapnel near Sainlez, Belgium while attacking the north edge of town. He is buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery, Hamm, Luxembourg and memorialized at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Floral, Arkansas.
