John Lee Roy Sharp, son of Brooks Cruthcher and Lola Mae (Hall) Sharp, was born October 11, 1919 at Toney, Alabama. He married Nancy Payne January 11, 1941 and the couple had a daughter, Vera Bell Sharp, born the following year. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was living in New Market, Alabama and working on his father's farm. He was inducted into the Army January 9, 1943 at Fort McClellan, Alabama and served in the First Platoon, Company F, 134th Infantry Regiment. Pvt John L Sharp was killed in action July 15, 1944 during the battle for St Lo, France. He is buried at Charity Baptist Church Cemetery, Hazel Green, Alabama.
