Clifton Elbridge Shaw, son of Fonzo Gardner and Vivian Mae (Hadaway) Shaw, was born October 2, 1920 in Dickens, Texas. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942, was inducted into the Army September 8, 1942, and served in the Second Platoon, Company F, 134th Infantry Regiment. He was wounded by artillery shell fragments July 15, 1944 at Hill 122 in the vicinity of St Lo, France and returned to duty September 6, 1944 after recuperating from his wounds. S/Sgt Clifton E Shaw was killed in action December 16, 1944 in the vicinity of Habkirchen, Germany. He is buried at Dickens Cemetery, Dickens, Texas.
