134th Infantry Regiment - Company I

Joseph Earl Simpson, son of Floyd Nelson and Velma Brown (Hutsell) Simpson, was born January 19, 1919 in Athens, Tennessee. He was a member of the Tennessee National Guard, was mobilized September 16, 1940, and graduated from Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He served as Platoon Commander, First Platoon, Company I, 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division. 1st Lt Joseph E Simpson was Killed in Action July 30, 1944, several miles south of St Lo, France. He is buried at Sewee Church of God Cemetery, Athens, Tennessee.
