134th Infantry Regiment - Company C

David Sockut, son of Harry and Helen (Kaplan) Sockut was born March 25, 1919. His enlistment record shows his place of birth as Bulgaria, but other records list Poland. His family immigrated to the United States in 1923. He was inducted into the Army April 13, 1940. He joined Company C, 134th Infantry Regiment from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 21, 1944 and was promoted to Sergeant August 5, 1944. Sgt David Sockut was killed in action August 10, 1944 in the vicinity of Mortain, France. Originally buried at St James Temporary American Military Cemetery in France, he was returned to the U.S. in 1948 and was laid to rest at Beth Midrash Hagadol Cemetery, Hartford, Connecticut.
