Stanley Ford Solmes, son of Peter Benjamin and Rose Alvira (Jackson) Solmes, was born June 14, 1915 in Saskatchewan, Canada. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was living in Detroit, Michigan. He married Evelyn Louise Kobmann on November 11, 1942 at Ferndale, Michigan. He listed his occupation as carpenter on his marriage license. He was inducted into the Army December 16, 1942. Pfc Stanley F Solmes served in the First Platoon, Company B, 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action July 18, 1944 during the battle for St Lo, France and is buried at Oakview Cemetery, Royal Oak, Michigan.
