William Paul Spell, son of Jefferson Edwin and Iva (Stanley) Spell, was born September 22, 1916 in West Eminence, Missouri. He married Alma Virginia Sauer April 20, 1935. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was living in Fairdealing, Missouri. He was inducted into the Army September 1, 1943 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri and served as a Rifleman in Weapons Platoon, Company L, 134th Infantry Regiment. Pvt William P Spell was killed in action July 18, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
