134th Infantry Regiment - Company G

Joseph Thomas Tvrdik, Jr, son of Joseph Thomas and Katherine Anna (Didek) Tvrdik, was born February 19, 1916 in Omaha, Nebraska. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was working for Crown Products Company in Omaha. He was inducted into the Army February 13, 1941 and served with the Third Platoon, Company G, 134th Infantry Regiment. He was reported missing September 11 and was later confirmed killed in action September 23, 1944. According to a condolence letter sent to his mother, "Joseph was a Rifleman in Company G, and at that time his unit was a part of the Third United States Army under General Patton which was participating in the drive across northern France. At the time Joseph became missing his unit was attempting to cross the Moselle River near Nancy, France. This action occurred on the 11th September 1944 and German resistance was very strong. Later reports received indicated that he was killed by fragments from artillery fire 23 September 1944". Pvt Joseph T Tvrdik, Jr is buried at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Omaha, Nebraska.
