Clark Whittaker, son of Cleveland and Dora (Conley) Whittaker, was born January 23, 1914 in Knott County, Kentucky. He was married to Nora Ellen Coburn and the couple had 2 daughters, Gladis born in 1938 and Kathleen born in 1944. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 and was inducted into the Army September 4, 1943 at Huntington, West Virginia. He joined Company G, 134th Infantry Regiment July 19 from the 86th Replacement Battalion and was promoted to Sergeant, Squad Leader August 19, 1944. Sgt Clark Whittaker was reported missing during the battle at Flavigny, France September 11, 1944. It was later confirmed that he had been captured by the enemy and died while being held prisoner on September 12, 1944. He is buried at AJ Shepherd Cemetery, Hueysville, Kentucky.
