Clem Wilkinson was born January 30, 1926 in Pikeville, Kentucky. He registered for the draft January 29, 1944 when he was 18 years old and was inducted into the Army March 24, 1944 at Fort Thomas in Newport, Kentucky. He joined Company F, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 48th Replacement Battalion on January 8, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge when the unit was in the vicinity of Sainlez, just south of Bastogne, Belgium. He suffered severe frostbite January 14, 1945 and was treated at the 2nd Battalion Aid Station then transferred to the 110th Medical Battalion Clearing Station before being evacuated to the 65th Field Hospital. He was medically discharged from the Army due to the severity of his injuries.
After the war, he married Lillian Luciale Stanley March 3, 1948. He loved bluegrass music, played the mandolin, guitar and banjo and attended many bluegrass festivals. He played with famous artists like Bill Monroe and Rhonda Vincent. Clem Wilkinson passed away November 8, 2018 and is buried at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, West Virginia.
