137th Infantry Regiment - Company I

Eivind Rinjus Berge, son of Eivind Knudsen and Annie Marie (Bunde) Berge, was born April 28, 1922 in Max, North Dakota. He moved to Minnesota sometime between 1935 and 1940 and registered for the draft June 30, 1942. At that time he was living in Braham and working at American State Bank in Moorehead, Minnesota. He entered the service March 22, 1943 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota and served as a Rifleman in Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment. Pvt Eivind R Berge was killed in action by artillery shell fragments on July 13, 1944 during the battle for St Lo, France. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
