137th Infantry Regiment, Company B

David Randolph Hill, son of George and Inez (Johnson) Hill, was born September 22, 1922 in Goldsboro, North Carolina. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942 and enlisted in the Army January 21, 1943 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He served as a Rifleman in Company B, 137th Infantry Regiment and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 1, 1944. On September 11, 1944, he was wounded by gunfire in the vicinity of Benney, approximately 15 miles south of Nancy, France. After recovering from his wounds, he returned to duty on December 4, 1944. Pfc David R Hill was killed in action January 13, 1945 during fighting in the Ardennes near Hompre, Belgium. He is buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery, Hamm, Luxembourg.
